12. Japan Airline’s Sky Suite 777
The first class cabins on Japan Airline’s Sky Suite 777 have woodgrain interiors and can be closed off from the rest of the plane for added privacy. Each private suite is 73 inches long and 26 inches wide with 73 inches of pitch, and the suite can be reclined into a cozy bed. Pajamas are included in the amenities!
Not only does the private suite turn into a cozy bed, but it also comes with a 23-inch LCD monitor, has space for luggage, and a power outlet so you can charge your devices. Meals are provided on the longer flights and a LOT of effort is put in making them truly gourmet. There is even an impressive selection of wine and champagne available.
To fly nonstop from North America to Tokyo can run about $15,000.
AirFrance has a new suite cabin, called La Première, and which can cost as much as $10,000 one way.
Each suite has a large seat that turns into a 6 and a half foot by 30-inch wide bed, featuring a surprisingly plush mattress and duvet. The 24-inch TV features more than 1000 hours of on-demand programming. Complimentary Wi-Fi is offered of course, and there’s a dining room table to enjoy a meal prepared by Michelin-star chef and TV personality Daniel Boulud. The collection of gourmet fare offers guests a chance to dine on Champagne foie gras, shrimp poached in cream sauce, and pan-seared tournedos of beef. Guests can also enjoy a thoughtfully curated wine menu with offerings from Burgundy and Bordeaux. The cabins also feature a “special of the day” created by other well-known chefs, such as Joël Robuchon.
10. Qatar Airway
For $5000 a seat, you can purchase a first class ticket with Qatar Airway. Like other first class options, the seats recline into a flat bed and come with a duvet. Customers part of first and business class can take advantage of Qatar Airway’s sky lounge, which comes with a curved bar and bar snacks.
Unlike other airlines, the seats aren’t as private as they could be. There’s a partition that divides one passenger from another but you can’t close yourself off into your own room. In-flight meals and snacks are gourmet, of course, and it wouldn’t be first class if there wasn’t champagne. First class flyers receive free Wi-Fi and luxurious amenity kits.
With Qantas, first class contains large suites known as “jumbo pods”, which are designed by Australian design legend Marc Newson. For a hefty price, these suites offer a pullout bed, amenity kits, a 17-inch private television, an ottoman, and a pullout table. When it’s time to sleep, the Bedding Down service provides pillows, blankets, a duvet, and a sheepskin mattress for extra comfort. Each pod receives dedicated service around the clock. Vintage bottles of champagne such as Veuve Clicquot and Tattinger flow freely, and delicious canapés like lobster puffs and caviar are served at takeoff. The menu is globally inspired, with dishes like spicy curry laksa, or their award-winning steak sandwich with tomato relish.
But you can even treat yourself before takeoff. Qantas first class travelers can book an appointment at the airline’s lounge spa for a pre-flight massage.
A ticket for a first class flight can cost upwards to $15,000.
8. Thai Airways
Thai Airways isn’t just first class. It’s royal first class. Exact luxuries vary depending on the flight route and the aircraft. However, each suite comes with private pods that have a minimum width of 21 inches, and 23-inch flat screen TV’s that offer about 130 movies, 300 television programs, 500 music CD’s, and a huge variety of games and special features. The luxury pod designs in the Boeing 747’s and Airbus A340’s offer 180-degree lie-flat beds and nearly 7 feet in length of private space BETWEEN each Royal First seat.
And of course, plenty of space is given for storage. Some flights offer lockers while some have overhead storage bins. As with all luxury flights, an amenity kit is offered. Impressive menus and wine selections round out the experience.
A one-way ticket from New York to Bangkok will set you back about $6,000, which actually isn’t that bad.
